After working in operational management for over 25 years, Richard turned to franchising because he wanted a career that offered financial security and had the potential to generate a great income. It was also an opportunity that enabled him to utilise his skills in people, operation and financial management.
“Something which attracted me to an Ovenclean franchise was that it was a one-man van operation. This meant that I could make my own decisions.”

“I was very impressed with the Ovenclean open day, clearly it is marketing led which was important for me and the support mechanisms are what make it such a great investment. The marketing help and back-up of a reputable brand is also a huge advantage, rather than starting a business yourself.
“Initially, I received 2 weeks on-the-job training with an existing successful and experienced franchisee. They showed me the process and I was evaluated as to how I interacted with customers and closed sales leads.”
New franchisees are given the opportunity to receive training from a business mentor – another successful franchisee who is there to provide them with advice and guidance during the training process and thereafter. Following technical training, franchisees then complete a 2-day sales and marketing course to assist them with sales.
After Richard’s training, he was able to generate sales very quickly: “Failure wasn’t an option for me, I always give 100%. I have been successful by being extremely focused on what I am doing, and adjusting marketing tactics if they are not working.
“Interacting well with a customer is key, as you need to build up your business and reputation with an oven cleaning franchise. The next vital part is marketing and prospecting for new business. I currently employ 4 different strands to this: Facebook, newspaper advertising, local magazines and leaflet drops.”
Ultimately, Richard is thrilled with his Ovenclean experience so far: “Ovenclean has given me a renewed confidence in my own abilities to provide a service to my customers. My goal is to achieve £1000 turnover per week by the end of 2018.”
He left us with some very good advice to prospective franchisees: “To be successful, you have to be fully committed and be prepared to take the odd hit. In the end, you will only get what you put in”
