How to Keep Your Oven Working Efficiency for Longer
Every oven has a lifespan, but that doesn’t mean as soon as the lifespan is up your oven will shut down. However, you may notice certain components start to wear out and need replacing. If you want to get the maximum use out of your oven and keep it going for as long as possible, it’s extremely important to take care of your oven and keep it clean. We have put together some top tips on how to keep your oven working efficiently for longer. Follow these tips and your oven will be more likely to work efficiently for longer.
Clean the oven regularly, and keep the oven clean
Keeping your oven clean helps it run more efficiently, but giving it a quick wipe down just isn’t enough. As your food bubbles and cooks in the oven it releases dirt, grease and food particles into the oven. The particles will eventually build up over time and could force your oven to have to work much harder to reach the temperature it should be.
We recommend thoroughly cleaning your oven once a month so you are not faced with this problem. When cleaning your oven, be sure to avoid the harsh toxic products of commercial oven cleaners. The toxins produced from these products can be very dangerous. Instead, we recommend using hot water mixed with baking soda. Give the oven a good scrub to remove that grime and grease. Getting a professional oven clean once every 6 months will also help dramatically when keeping on top of this job.
Don’t fall for ‘self-cleaning ovens’
Many new ovens will come with the function of ‘self-cleaning’ and although this may seem like a quick and easy option, it can be very damaging to your oven. This function will heat up the oven to an extremely hot temperature in order to burn off the cooked food embedded inside the oven. However, it can cause a lot of damage to your oven. The damage could include melting the internal components within and producing a foul burning odour and causing great strain on the heating elements. Overall, this function just really isn’t worth all of the problems it can cause. If you want to extend the lifespan of your oven then avoid self-cleaning oven functions.
Look out for cracked door seals
Broken, cracked or torn seals will let all of the heat escape from your oven and therefore your oven will have to work twice as hard to maintain the temperature it needs to be. Keep an eye out for this and replace it as soon as you can. This is key in keeping your oven working efficiently.
- Avoid using foil in the cavity
It is okay to cook your food in foil, but avoid placing foil in the cavity of the oven. It might seem like a good idea to put foil at the bottom of the oven to catch the grease and grime. But foil reflects heat and it will completely disrupt the heat around the oven and can even obstruct the fan. Instead opt for an oven liner, to keep the bottom of your oven grime-free.
Book an oven repair
If you notice any problems or faults with your oven, it’s crucial to get it repaired as soon as possible. Ignoring the fault will only make it worse. Problems such as a short wire can lead to a short in another area as your oven will try and compensate. If you notice an issue with your oven, it’s best to get it checked out and repaired by a professional, to prevent further damage to your oven.
