Bonfire Spiced Chocolate Traybake Recipe

Can you believe Bonfire night is here already?! Ready for your bonfire parties, we have teamed up with top blogger Britt (AKA She Who Bakes), who has created us a bonfire recipe fit for any party.

What you’ll need:

For the cake:

  • 200g self-raising flour
  • 150g unsalted butter
  • 50g golden syrup
  • 200g light brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 50g cocoa powder
  • 85g dark chocolate (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon mixed spice

For the cinnamon buttercream:

  • 250g unsalted butter
  • 500g icing sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For the topping:

  • 3x chocolate honeycomb bars
  • Pack of orange Matchmakers
  • White chocolate (melted)


For the cake:

  1. Preheat your oven at 140°
  2. Cream together the unsalted butter, light brown sugar and golden syrup.
  3. Add in the eggs, and mix well.
  4. Mix in the self-raising flour, cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and mixed spice.
  5. Put in the melted dark chocolate.
  6. Pour into a lined tray – Britt used a 10” x 8” tray.
  7. Bake for between 45 minutes – 1 hour (until a skewer comes out clean).

For the decoration:

  1. Once the cake has cooled, you can start making the buttercream.
  2. Mix the unsalted butter, icing sugar and cinnamon together.
  3. Spoon this mixture over the chocolate traybake and spread into an even layer.
  4. Crush the chocolate honeycomb bars and brake up the Matchmakers, add these to the top of the cake.
  5. Finish with a drizzle of melted white chocolate.
  6. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Once you have made your cake, ensure it is stored in an airtight container and enjoy for 3-4 days.
