Detox Your Way into 2015!

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed some fantastic food over the festive period (and followed some of our recipes on social media!). We’re sure that plenty of people across the country are considering what diet they’ll be doing over the coming months, we certainly are here at Ovenclean!

2014 saw the Health Drink come into fashion and we’ve all heard those stories of health drinks having an ‘interesting’ taste!  So we decided to give some recipes a go ourselves to help you avoid any bad tasting concoctions. These were the ones that won our taste test!

Banana and Ginger Smoothie

Ginger, which is a great natural treatment for many illnesses, makes this smoothie not only healthy but also a great aid for controlling heartburn, nausea and other stomach pains.

1 Banana (chopped up)
400g Natural / Vanilla Yoghurt
½ Tablespoon Honey
½ Teaspoon Grated Ginger (Fresh)
Serves 2

Ovenclean’s Verdict – The ginger can be a little overpowering, but it really does help with stomach complaints. The banana gives it a great taste! 8/10

Berry Smoothie

We’re always hearing about how berries are ‘superfoods’ so it makes sense that they would be one of the best ingredients for a healthy smoothie.

250g of Mixed Berries (Raspberry, Strawberry, Blueberry)
300g Strawberry Yoghurt (Fat free)
75ml Semi Skimmed Milk
1 Teaspoon Honey
Serves 2

Ovenclean’s Verdict – What’s not to love about this smoothie, even the most averse to fruits will enjoy this one! 9.5/10

Nutrition Punch Smoothie

Don’t be deceived by the word punch, this is not an alcoholic beverage! Full of vitamins, this is the smoothie of smoothies to fight off any Winter colds coming your way.

2 Oranges (peeled and chopped)
2 Carrots (peeled and chopped)
50g Mangoes (chopped)
50g Passion Fruit (scooped and chopped)
350ml Water
Serves 2

Ovenclean’s Verdict – This one certainly wasn’t our favourite taste-wise but we can’t deny we felt pretty energised after drinking it and, for that reason we had to include it in our top 5! 7/10

Kiwi and Cucumber Surprise Smoothie

The surprise is that this smoothie doesn’t taste as bad as you would think! It’s another one with ginger in so helps with digestion and stomach issues.

1 Cucumber (chopped)
2 Kiwis (peeled)
400g Greek Yoghurt
½ Teaspoon Grated Ginger (fresh)
½ Teaspoon Honey
Serves 2

Ovenclean’s Verdict – Don’t be put off by cucumber, it gives the smoothie quite a refreshing taste and you can’t overtly taste it. 8/10

Coconut Water

Coconut water is the biggest craze at the moment and is available to buy in most supermarkets. However, should you want to give it a go yourself, it’s not that difficult to do.

2 Coconuts
200ml Water
Pinch of  Salt
1 Tablespoon of Honey

You’ll need a corkscrew to extract the coconut water and will need to heat up half of the water with the honey in to dissolve it nicely. Once you’ve added the remaining water and rest of the ingredients in, simply leave to chill in the refrigerator after a good stir!

Ovenclean’s Verdict – This one split the panel and we think you’ll either love it or you’ll hate it! 7/10
