The old adage of "look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves", couldn't be more appropriate here. Following January's #moneysavingtips campaign, we have put together what we think are the best ideas for saving money whatever the time of year;
1. It's all in the planning -
Plan your meals for the week, cook from scratch, shop to a strict budget and try non-branded foods. If you know exactly what you need to buy for the week ahead and have a budget to work to, you are less likely to overspend on those impulse purchases. Why not check out our recent blog post featuring 5 recipes, which will each feed a family of 4 for under £5!
2. De-clutter -
Have a sort out and sell any unwanted items online or via social media forums. This will not only leave you feeling cleansed, but should make you some money in the process = win-win.
3. Romantic night in -
With Valentine's Day coming up, save a few £'s and instead of splashing out on a fancy meal in a restaurant, which you will pay a premium for just because it's Valentine's, why not try a 'dine in for 2' meal which you can find at many supermarkets - very little fuss to prepare and usually much cheaper than going out! Better still, cook from scratch with your partner - it is a great, inexpensive way to spend quality time together.
4. Switch up your utility bills -
Shopping around will take some time, but could ultimately save you lots of money! Insurances can be a great place to start, as we seem to have an insurance for just about everything these days - it certainly pays to make sure you're getting the best deal! It may also be worth checking your council tax band, as if it is currently wrong, you could save around £200 per year simply by dropping one band
5. Do you really need it? -
Finally, ask yourself this when it comes to making any purchase - be it some new clothes, a drink after work, a magazine or even that bag of crisps you buy on your way to work every day. Unless you really need it, don't buy it - you'll be amazed how much you can save in a very short space of time!
We hope these tips give you something to think about and come in handy if you're feeling the pinch this January - they're definitely the ones we think will save you the most money in the long run!
